An Olaplex Review: Introducing The Ultimate Hair Transformer

Picture the scene: it was 2015 and my hair was damaged, lifeless, and in need of serious help.

Chemical treatments combined with vitamin and collagen deficiencies had taken their toll. As a result, I thought the breakage was truly beyond repair – and not even a lengthy cut could undo the damage.

Step forward, Olaplex: a hair miracle worker.

Luckily, my stylist at Ljubljana’s Medinmleko Salon introduced me to Olaplex products because they’ve been such a life-saver. My locks have never looked so shiny, felt so healthy or had their colour so beautifully maintained – and it’s all down to this ultimate hair transformer.

How Olaplex Works

Firstly, allow me to break Olaplex down for you.

Olaplex has a patented active ingredient called bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate. It works on a molecular level to find broken disulfide sulfur hair bonds. This breakage may have occurred due to chemical, thermal or mechanical damage.

You can solely use Olaplex to restore compromised tresses, or you can use it alongside other treatments to provide the “ultimate breakage insurance.” Either way, it’s proven to get results.

New Beginnings: An Olaplex Review of No.1

Essentially, whenever I have my hair coloured or lightened, my stylist mixes Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier into my colour

This product protects my hair from the chemicals in the dye. It rebuilds any hair bonds that have previously been damaged or broken to produce stronger, healthier locks overall.

The Next Step: An Olaplex Review of No. 2

Next, my stylist uses Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector at the shampoo bowl after my colour has been rinsed off.

This step continues to aid the repair of any broken or damaged hair in addition to restoring my tresses to their former glory.

Consequently, I can’t tell you how thrilled I was with the results after just one treatment at the salon!

Continuing Treatment: An Olaplex Review of No. 3

After my first Olaplex treatment at the salon, I was sent home with Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector. This is a treatment designed to be used at home once per week to “repair, protect and strengthen” your locks.

All I have to do is apply the treatment to towel-dried hair, put on a shower cap and cover it with a towel. Then it’s all about letting it work its magic for approximately 30 minutes.

Prolonging Results: An Olaplex Review of No. 4 and 5

If you’re a fan of the results that Olaplex delivers (like me), consider using the follow-on products. You can easily incorporate No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner into your weekly hair routine to serve as further treatment.

Personally, I tend to use No. 4 and 5 if my hair has undergone any major chemical processes, as well as before going on vacation. This will really nourish my hair and give it extra protection against the elements.

Of course, once I return from a holiday where my hair has been exposed to the sun, sea and salty air, I normally use all of the at-home products. The idea behind this is to repair any damage that may have occurred and ensure that my hair remains strong and healthy.

Identifying a Daily Solution: An Olaplex Review of No. 6

Did you know that the Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother only came out very recently? Nevertheless, this product is receiving rave reviews from haircare professionals, publications, and fanatics alike.

The only Olaplex product that’s designed for use every single day, this leave-in styling creme boasts the ability to eliminate frizz, hydrate your locks, and protect them from damage. All you have to do apply a very small amount to damp or dry hair on your mid-length to ends. Comb it through, and then style it according to your preferences.

I recommend you to be cautious about the amount of product that you put on your hair daily (whether it’s wet or dry).

Why? Well, as Sabina Wizemann (a senior chemist in the GH Beauty Lab) says: “Most styling products that promise to detangle, soften or smooth hair are actually leave-in conditioners” even if they’re not called this outright. Ergo, you can make tresses get a bit too greasy if you overdo the amount of product that you use with everyday leave-in conditioners.

Since we all have different hair structure and volume, it’s just about experimenting to find out what works for you (and what doesn’t).

Maximising Effects: An Olaplex Review of No.7

Finally, the Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil was recently released. It can be used on wet or dry hair every day or sporadically as and when you’re in need of a boost.

Described as “a highly-concentrated, weightless reparative styling oil” by the brand itself, No.7 aims to make your hair as shiny, soft, and vibrant as possible.

I haven’t tried this product yet but I’ll be intrigued to see whether it lives up to the hype!

Olaplex: It Really Works!

All in all, since I started incorporating Olaplex into my hair-colouring process at the salon alongside using the products myself at home, I’ve noticed an extreme difference. My hair is much more manageable and easy to style.

Even though I initially experienced immediate results, I’ve continued to see improvement with Olaplex over time. My hair appears thicker and healthier on a regular basis – and I no longer experience hair loss from breakage.

Gone are the days of frizziness from having damaged, over-processed hair. Hurrah! I’m so glad I discovered these products and I’m able to share this hair-saving secret with beauty mavens everywhere. You’re welcome.

You can find out more details about Olaplex on their website. You can also find out how to use the products and locate a salon that has them in your area. If you are in Ljubljana, I highly recommend booking an appointment with Medinmleko Salon to banish all your hair woes.
