3 Ways to Slay Neutrals for AW19

Neutrals have stuck around on the style scene for several seasons now.

“Boring” beige might have dominated Spring/Summer 2019, but it’s starting to make way for other tones in the brown colour palette.

Step forward, caramel, biscuit, chocolate and chestnut as seen on the Autumn/Winter 2019 catwalks of Victoria Beckham, Jil Sander and Loewe. And trust me, these shades look as luscious as they sound.

Read on for 3 ways to slay neutrals for AW19.

1. One Key Piece (to Rule Them All)

Firstly, the easiest way to nail neutrals is to focus on one key piece in the brown family.

This key piece could be a sharp chestnut pencil skirt with a black tee and court shoes for ultimate office chic. Alternatively, it could be a biscuit button-up shirt with white wide-legged jeans and chunky trainers for a cute, casual aesthetic.

Either way, the idea is to team your neutral tone with classic colours like black or white to let it stand out and do the talking. And believe it or not, it has a lot to say.

2. Similar Tones in the Same Outfit

Another way to rock neutrals is to combine two or three different shades in one outfit.

For example, you could wear a beige dress and then add a pop of contrasting colour to your aesthetic in the form of chocolate boots or a bag.

During AW18 the camel coat reigned supreme. If you still have yours, be sure to dig it out from the back of your wardrobe and pair it with other sassy separates for a fresh, fashion-forward look.

3. Head To Toe in One Hue

Finally, one of my favourite ways to nail neutrals is by creating an outfit in the same hue.

Personally, I find that a taupe dress looks timelessly elegant for a smart-casual occasion when paired with taupe boots.

And if it has feminine detailing like ruffles, puffed sleeves or bows? Even better. The romanticism of this dress will match the romanticism of the city where I live. After all, Ljubljana is one of the greenest European capitals where you can peacefully ride a bike, people-watch at one of its many cafes or take a long stroll by beautiful river Ljubljanica.

Neutrals Never Go Out of Style

New to neutrals? Not to worry – it’s never too late to jump on the bandwagon. Or if you’re already a fanatic, you’ll be happy to hear that these toasty shades show no signs of going out of style.
